MEDIA MEDITATION #2: STUMBLING DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

Hey there internet peoples, its me again, just writing to you to tell you about stumbleupon.com, a revolutionary website that allows you to skip around the web based on a selection of your interests and viewer recomendations. For those of you out there who don't already know what stumbling is allow me to inform you.

Stumbling is the act of going from web page to web page surfing as you see fit, either using the actual host site, www.stumbleupon.com, or the stumbleupon button that you can install for Mozzila Firefox. (Get the add on here)

Each week I will be writing about things i have stumbled upon, whether they are videos, images, or interesting flash games that keep us awake all night, and posting them here to share with you all. So lets get started.

I recently stumbled upon a site i found rather intersting. It was cracked.com's list of 7 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs Hidden in Famous Works of Art. Check it Out.

I found this list to be pretty intriguing as i did not previously know Michelangelo's ode to the Book of Genesis contained a secret and quite anatomically accurate image of the human brain.

Also written about in the article was the hidden melody in Leonardo Da Vinci's painting, The Last supper.

If you liked that article, take a look at some of the these other lists from cracked.com.

Here's a neat video about the search for extraterrestrials being conducted by SETI

Now, wasn't that arousing to your intellect? It really makes you think about the odds of intelligent life existing in our universe. It may be very possible that we find some evidence of Alien life in the near future as technology gets better. I personally, can't wait to smoke a bowl with E.T.

Peace out peoples, see you next time.

MEDIA MEDITATION #1: JAZZ, SEX, AND MURDER: LIFE ON THE BOARDWALK

Television has recently been turned upside down by the release of the new hit  HBO series Boardwalk Empire. This Scorsese directed saga has achieved the highest ratings for any HBO television series premiere since 2004.

Boardwalk Empire has truly stolen the spotlight with its star studded cast and visionary directing. This period drama focuses on Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, a character portrayed by award winning actor Steve Buscemi, and his rise to power  in Altantic City during the 1920's. The show is centered around, Nucky, a corrupt political figure who has risen to power to create an empire of gambling, prostitution, liquor, and murder.

Check out this preview of the first episode

As you can see, Boardwalk Empire is anything but uninteresting. The show is akin to Scorsese's other work; plenty of the old "ultraviolence", sex, and action... lots of sweet uncensored action. The plot thickens throughout the series as famous gangsters are subtly introduced one by one such as James "Jimmy" Darmody played by Michael Pitt, and Al Capone who is played by Stephen Graham.

Overall, I would say that Boardwalk Empire is one of the best HBO series ever produced. The acting is fantastic, the dialogue, costumes and sets are amazing and the directing... simply outstanding. This truly is some of Scorsese's best work to date, so put on your fuzzy slippers, grab a friend and take a seat, because Boardwalk Empire is going to knock you off your feet!

But hey, don't take my word for it, check out some of the reviews for Boardwalk Empire linked below...

Displaying the Wares

1.) Where are you from?

I was born and raised on Long Island, NY.

2.) One fun media experience from this summer?

I enjoyed going to the Vans Warped Tour when it came to NY. It was a lot of fun but very hot, and I regret paying $8 for a Gatorade. One fun thing that came out of that experience was being part of the crowd that heckled Performer, Mike Posner. I use the term performer loosely as he is a joke.

3.) What are your Likes/Dislikes about our media culture?

I like how easy it is to access information nowadays. I think, the Internet plays a major role in this and I feel lucky to live in a time where all of our questions can be answered by typing them into the Google search engine.

I dislike the lack of privacy brought on by the Internet. And Facebook. I hate Facebook with an intense passion.

4.) Future plans and aspirations?

I would like to graduate with my degree in public relations from Champlain College in 2013 and hopefully start my own business either back home or right here in Burlington.
